For those of you who live in the UK, Tesco Pet Insurance might be the pet health company you are looking for. They are a solid company which is underwritten by UK Insurance Limited (UKI). That means they are a Royal Bank of Scottland Group company.

Tesco Pet Insurance Policy Choices

There are two levels of covearge offered by Tesco. Standard and Extra. Upgrades to the "Extra" plan offer even more types of coverage. For a fee of course :)

A Tesco "Standard" policy covers veterinary expenses up to £2,500 per condition, for up to 12 months from the start of the condition. I'm guessing the standard policy wouldn't be much use if your pet was diagnosed with something like diabetes. Diseases like that needed to be managed for the life of your pet not just for a year.

A Tesco "Extra" policy covers veterinary expenses up to £4,000 per condition and there is no time limit for the condition. So they'll keep covering your costs until the £4,000 pay out threshold is reached.

Your policy must not laps for reimbursement to be made. As with virtually ALL pet insurance companies, Tesco will not cover pre-existing conditions of any kind. So if you have a pet with an ongoing health issue be sure not to let your insurance laps or you won't be able to renew your policy. This advice goes for any pet health company or policy you buy.

They are a large company providing all types of insurance to a diverse group of people all over Europe Pet insurance is only one of the many products they offer. This can be a good or bad thing depending on your point of view.

On the one hand they've got lots of experience in the insurance industry and are not likely to go out of business any time soon. On the other hand, because they are a BIG company with many products an individual may feel more like a number and pet insurance could feel less a priority as it's only one product of many.
